Apple may soon introduce ads inside its Maps app, marking a big change for how users discover places on iPhone. The company is reportedly planning to roll out the feature later this year, with an announcement expected as early as this month.

The idea is simple.

Businesses will be able to pay to appear at the top of search results inside Apple Maps. For example, if a user searches for restaurants or cafes, promoted listings could show up first.

This would work in a similar way to Google Maps. Google has shown ads in its navigation app for years, where businesses can pay to get more visibility. Apple entering this space could open a new revenue stream for the company.

At the same time, it raises questions for users. Apple has built its brand around privacy and clean user experience. Adding ads inside Maps could change how people interact with the app, especially if sponsored results start appearing in place of organic ones.

Apple Maps has improved a lot in recent years.

Earlier, users criticized it for limited features, but Apple has slowly upgraded it with better navigation, traffic insights and partnerships with services like the MICHELIN Guide. These changes helped Maps become more competitive with Google Maps.

Now, ads could be the next step. The company has not officially confirmed details yet, and it is still unclear how these ads will be shown or how they will affect features users already rely on.

If launched, this would be one of the biggest changes to Apple Maps in years.
