OpenAI Is Building One App for ChatGPT, Browser and Coding Tools on Desktop

A new report suggests OpenAI is planning a major shift in how its tools are used

OpenAI is working on a new desktop app that could combine multiple tools into one place. The app is expected to bring ChatGPT, a browser and coding tools together.

According to reports from Wall Street Journal and CNBC, the company is building a “super app” for desktop users. The goal is to simplify how people use OpenAI products.

The project will be led by Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s Chief of Applications. OpenAI President Greg Brockman is also said to be involved in the development. The company believes it has been spreading its efforts across too many apps. This has made it harder to maintain quality and move fast.

In an internal note, Simo reportedly said the company needs to focus on fewer products. She explained that too many separate apps were slowing progress.

This matters because OpenAI is shifting towards more powerful AI tools. A single app could make it easier for users to access everything in one place. The upcoming app is also expected to focus on agent based AI features. These systems can perform tasks like writing code or analyzing data with little human input.

That points to a bigger change in how AI tools are used. Instead of switching between apps, users may rely on one system to handle multiple tasks.

There is no official launch date yet. OpenAI has also not confirmed full details about the app.

Still, the move shows how fast AI companies are evolving. The race is now about building complete platforms, not just single tools.
