A reported one billion dollar deal tied to Sora will not move forward, as OpenAI exits the video app space. The project had aimed to bring well known characters into AI generated videos, but the agreement was never fully completed.
Sora faced rising competition. New AI video tools from companies like Google and others quickly gained traction, offering more advanced features and better performance. At the same time, Sora struggled to maintain long term user growth after its initial launch.
The shutdown highlights a broader shift inside OpenAI. The company is focusing more on building a unified AI platform and reducing projects that require heavy resources but offer limited returns.
