OpenAI is shutting down its Sora AI video app, marking a major shift in its product strategy. The company confirmed the move in a public post, saying it will share more details soon about timelines and how users can preserve their work.

Sora had gained attention for its ability to generate realistic videos from text prompts, but OpenAI is now shifting focus toward business and productivity tools. Reports suggest the company wants to prioritize areas like coding, enterprise services and building a broader AI platform.

The decision also impacts a planned partnership with Disney.

A reported one billion dollar deal tied to Sora will not move forward, as OpenAI exits the video app space. The project had aimed to bring well known characters into AI generated videos, but the agreement was never fully completed.

Sora faced rising competition. New AI video tools from companies like Google and others quickly gained traction, offering more advanced features and better performance. At the same time, Sora struggled to maintain long term user growth after its initial launch.

The shutdown highlights a broader shift inside OpenAI. The company is focusing more on building a unified AI platform and reducing projects that require heavy resources but offer limited returns.
